Service Description

Join us for a fun and delicious class where we’ll be making two classic Irish dishes with a kid-friendly twist! You’ll start by baking Irish Soda Muffins—mini versions of traditional soda bread, soft and slightly sweet, perfect for little hands to enjoy. Then, we’ll make Mashed Potato Cakes, crispy and golden on the outside with a creamy, fluffy inside—ideal for using up leftover mashed potatoes! In this class, students will learn a variety of valuable baking and cooking skills: Mixing and Measuring: Students will practice proper measuring techniques, using both dry and wet ingredients, to ensure their Irish soda muffins and mashed potato cakes turn out perfectly. Baking Basics: They'll learn the fundamentals of baking, such as the importance of ingredient ratios, how to properly prepare a muffin tin, and how to bake at the correct temperature for even results. Making Dough and Batter: Students will get hands-on experience mixing dough for the soda muffins and forming the batter for the mashed potato cakes, learning when to stop mixing for the perfect texture. Shaping and Portioning: They’ll learn how to shape dough into muffin portions and form mashed potato cakes into perfect patties, which is an essential skill for both savory and sweet recipes. Pan-frying: For the mashed potato cakes, students will learn the art of frying in a pan to achieve that crispy golden exterior while maintaining a soft interior. Flavor Balancing: They'll also explore how to balance flavors, using simple ingredients like buttermilk, butter, and herbs to create flavorful, well-rounded dishes. By the end of the class, students will have a better understanding of baking and cooking techniques, as well as a delicious meal to enjoy! Participants will be standing for most of the class, so please wear closed-toe shoes and ensure long hair is tied back. This is a drop-off program designed to foster independence in the kitchen. Missed classes are non-refundable—please review our Cancellation Policy. In each class, students work together in teams of two, fostering teamwork and camaraderie. As part of the experience, they'll make and enjoy some of the food they created during class. They'll also have the chance to take a portion of their creation home to share including the recipes, as the focus is on learning and practicing Culinary techniques.
