4-Day Series
Service Description
Our 4-day camp is the perfect place for young aspiring chefs aged 8-11 to gain confidence and unleash their creativity in the kitchen! Be introduced to the foundational skills of cooking and elevate your culinary creations with our intro to basic techniques class! We will guide you through the essentials of knife skills, sautéing, roasting, and more, giving you the tools and confidence to create delicious meals from scratch. Class 1: Knife Skills and Basic Vegetable Prep Introduction to knives and knife safety How to hold and sharpen a knife Basic vegetable cuts (dice, julienne, mince, etc.) Preparing a simple vegetable dish (e.g. stir-fry or roasted vegetables) Class 2: Sautéing and Pan-Frying Introduction to different cooking methods (sautéing, pan-frying, etc.) How to properly heat a pan How to sauté vegetables and meats How to bread and pan-fry chicken or fish Preparing a simple sautéed dish (e.g. chicken with vegetables) Class 3: Roasting and Baking Introduction to oven cooking How to properly preheat an oven How to roast vegetables and meats How to bake simple desserts (e.g. cookies or brownies) Preparing a simple roasted dish (e.g. roasted chicken or vegetables) Class 4: Boiling and Simmering Introduction to boiling and simmering How to properly salt water for boiling How to make a basic pasta sauce How to cook rice or grains Preparing a simple boiled or simmered dish (e.g. pasta with sauce or rice and vegetables) You will be standing, cooking & working for most of the class. Please wear closed-toe shoes and have long hair pulled back. This is a drop-off program to allow the children independence in the kitchen. NOTE: Classes will start & end promptly on time. Please drop off 15 min. early and pickup no later than 10 min after class.
Cancellation Policy
Due to our need to purchase food and supplies in advance, we are unable to provide refunds once a class is booked. You may receive a credit toward another class if notified a week prior to the date of your registered class. You are welcome to send someone in your place to attend the class that you've purchased. The Art of Food reserves the right to cancel a class. Registrants will be notified by email or phone as far in advance as possible and will issue a credit for upcoming classes. Please review class information carefully. We cannot be responsible for allergies, food or other sensitivities that may be unique to an individuals medical condition. Please note our kitchen is not a gluten-free environment and may contain nut products and other potential allergens. Sick Student Policy: Students should stay home if they or any family members are experiencing symptoms of illness, only returning to class once they’ve been well and symptom-free for at least 24 hours. This precaution supports a healthy environment for all students and staff.
